An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn is a 1998 comedy about a film director who is forced to steal his movie after the studio refuses to release his version of a film. Alan Smithee (Eric Idle) is a successful Hollywood film director who is currently shooting an action film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sylvester Stallone and Jackie Chan. Though Smithee is initially happy with his version of the film, the studio that financed it is not pleased. They decide that in order to make any money, they will need to completely recut the film. Smithee is incensed and asks for his name to be removed from the film. Unfortunately, the tradition in Hollywood in such instances is to actually use the name Alan Smithee as a placeholder for the director's name. Realizing he has no other choice, Smithee steals the negative of the film and decides to burn it to preserve his reputation. With the studio hot on his tale, he races to destroy all evidence of his film before the studio catches him.moreless
