An Awfully Big Adventure is a dark comedy about the dysfunctional relationships that grow between the members of a theatrical company. Stella Bradshaw (Georgina Cates) has no idea what to do with her life. At the suggestion of her Uncle Vernon (Alun Armstrong), she auditions for a theatrical group and is asked to join. Immediately, she falls for the troupe's imperious director, Meredith Potter (Hugh Grant), not realizing that he is actually gay. Rejected by him, she eventually falls into an affair with a middle-aged actor, P.L. O'Hara (Alan Rickman). O'Hara is a tortured soul, who is haunted by both his experiences in World War II and the woman he once loved. While he loves Stella, he is also disturbed by her constant longing for Potter, who does nothing but behave cruelly to her. When O'Hara decides to investigate Stella's past, however, he learns secrets about her that he would rather not know. An Awfully Big Adventure explores the nature of identity and the reality that all of us hold dark secrets that we would rather not have revealed.moreless
