Anastasia is the classic 1956 drama about the long-lost Russian princess, with Ingrid Bergman in an Oscar-winning lead performance. In 1920s Paris, Russian expatriate General Sergei Bounine (Yul Brynner) saves a suicidal young woman, Anna Koreff (Ingrid Bergman), who he later discovers is an amnesiac. He conspires with fellow Russian exiles to groom Anna into the persona of the youngest daughter of Emperor Nicholas II of Russia, Princess Anastasia. Rumors have spread that she survived the massacre that took the lives of the rest of her family and Bounine wants the 10 million pounds held for the princess at the Bank of England. Anna, who bears a physical resemblance to the Russian princess, must convince the Dowager Empress of Russia, Maria Feodorovna (Helen Hayes), that she is truly Anastasia. Anna's transformation into a regal beauty with elegant deportment is so convincing that Bounine begins to believe that he has found the missing royal.
