Angela is a touching dramatic work about a young girl that leaves her chaotic home as a result of her somewhat skewed and misled religious concoctions. Filled with distorted beliefs about religion, angels, and sin, Angela (Miranda Stuart Ryne) is continually tormented by the violent and irrational mood swings of her mother Mae (Anna Thompson), a former singer who seems to be mentally sick. Convinced that her own spiritual failings are responsible for her mom's erratic behavior, Angela leaves home with her young sister Ellie (Charlotte Blythe) to purify herself, and therefore hope to save her mother. Following what she sees as signs of God, the older sister leads the two girls out on an unexpected and mystical adventure, often finding the real world is contrastingly different to the fantastical creation within her own mind. As she sorts through both real and imagined events, from a visit from Lucifer (Peter Facinelli) to an incident with a pedophile whom the girls mistakenly believe is an angel, the two sisters' journey brings them closer to one another, but increasingly farther away from anything resembling reality. First timer Rebecca Miller writes and directs this award winning and introspective drama.moreless
