1990
Rating:
PG-13

Arachnophobia is an irrational fear of spiders, a condition Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Bridges) suffers despite moving from the big city to a small town where arachnids are prevalent. Unfortunately for Dr. Jennings and his wife Molly (Harley Jane Kozak), a newly discovered breed of highly aggressive and venomous South American spider is also recently transplanted to this location, taking up residence in the Jenning's barn and mating with a local domestic spider. Before long a new breed of extremely deadly spider is invading the town, beginning a sequence of mysterious deaths that the townsfolk irrationally blame on the new doctor. Dr. Jennings begins to suspect the deaths are linked, but few of the townspeople accept his speculation that the deaths are caused by some breed of spider. Finding an unlikely ally in the town's exterminator, Delbert McClintock (John Goodman), and with the assistance of acclaimed entomologist Dr. James Atherton (Julian Sands) Jennings manages to validate his theory but the magnitude of the threat has increased exponentially. Unless the three can quickly locate the spider's nest, there will be nothing to stop the deadly arachnids from spreading throughout the world.
