Armored is a 2009 crime thriller written by James V. Simpson and directed by Nimrod Antal. The film follows Ty Hackett (Columbus Short), a former armed services veteran and Silver Star recipient. Returning to civilian life, Hackett takes a job as an armored car guard. Facing financial pressure from a home foreclosure and the threat of losing custody of his younger brother, Jimmy (Andre Jamal Kinney), Hackett is looking for a way to make ends meet. When Mike Cochrane (Matt Dillon), Jimmy's godfather and Hackett's co-worker, suggests a staged armed robbery, Hackett reluctantly agrees. Joined by armored guards Baines (Laurence Fishburne), Dobbs (Skeet Ulrich), Palmer (Amaury Nolasco) and Quinn (Jean Reno), the six head to an abandoned mill to transfer the money. Everything is going as planned when they spot a homeless man (Nick Jameson) at the mill. Fearing he will report them to the authorities, Baines takes matters into his own hands. Now Hackett must decide whether he is worthy of the Silver Star he once received.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 70

    Los Angeles Times

A solid heist flick elevated by its ensemble cast and the visual eye of Hungarian-born director Nimrod Antal ("Kontroll").

  • 60

The New York Times A.O. Scott

An unabashed B movie: basic, brutal and sometimes clumsy, but far from dumb, and not bad at all.

  • 50

    Variety

A so-so heist-gone-awry thriller, light on the thrills, Armored doesn't exactly take its audience captive.
