Arrowhead is a 1953 western based the novel, Adobe Walls, by W. R. Burnett. Ed Bannon (Charleton Heston) is the ruthless Chief of Scouts for the United States who does not favor the Apache tribe. When the young Apache leader Toriano (Jack Palance) returns home from being schooled back East, Bannon thinks he has only returned to the tribe to start an uprising against the whites who are rounding up the tribe to place them on an Indian reservation. Toriano and Bannon are at odds with each other about what to do with the tribe. Bannon loses his job when he kills two Indians that were sent in peace with a message. Captain North (Brian Keith), who is in charge of the cavalry, decides that he needs Bannon's help because he knows the Apache ways. Since the Indians have such a strong leader in Toriano, Captain North needs all the help he can get.
