As Tears Go By is a Hong Kong action film from acclaimed direct Kar Wai Wong. It is about mobster Ah Wah (Andy Lau) trying to keep his friend, Fly (Jackie Cheung), on the straight and narrow. However, Fly wants very badly to be a mobster too but does not have what it takes. Wah, who is both respected and feared, is constantly bailing his friend out of trouble. Eventually, Fly gets in too deep putting Wah and his gang in trouble. Complicating matters is the arrival of Wah's cousin Ngor (Maggie Cheung). She needs a place to stay and moves into Wah's apartment. Slowly, the two fall in love. The attraction is so strong that Wah considers leaving gang life behind to live with Ngor somewhere outside of Hong Kong. Yet, he is torn between his dedication to his friend Fly, who needs his protection, and the love of his life.
