Asteroids: Deadly Impact is an engaging and thorough documentary examining a sobering danger pertinent to the survival of life on this world. Millions of years ago, the aftermath of a cosmic strike wiped out the dominant life forms on planet Earth. Yearly, millions of asteroids streak through the Earth's atmosphere, many striking the planet with little to no effect or trace. Geological evidence suggests many major asteroid strikes occur at regular intervals, and the question arises: What would it take for another the cosmic event like what wiped out the dinosaurs? In this National Geographic documentary, geologist, astronomer and filmmaker Eugene Shoemaker, wife Carolyn, and expert David Levy explore the scientific data and speculation pertaining to this question, traveling worldwide examining geological data, impact records, consulting experts and scanning the heavens for astronomical evidence for number of cosmic objects threatening earth. The trio uncover a terrifying revelation and derive startling conclusions about the increasing likelihood of planet Earth facing an asteroid strike of catastrophic proportions and what little defense exists in the face of such an event.moreless
