At Long Last Love is Peter Bodanovich's tribute to the magnificent musical comedies of 1930s Hollywood. It follows three couples who meet, argue, sing and fall in love in the Big Apple. Michael Oliver Pritchard (Burt Reynolds) pursues Broadway actress Kitty O'Kelly (Madeline Kahn) after he narrowly misses her with his car. Pampered heiress Brooke Carter (Cybil Shepherd) meets gambler Johnny Spanish (Duilio Del Prete) at the racetrack. The four friends decide to do the town, while Brooke's maid Elizabeth (Eileen Brennan) decides to throw herself at Pritchard's butler Rodney James (John Hillerman). The four friends decide to switch partners while at a party and in a move to make the others jealous, Kitty and Johnny begin a romance while Brooke and Michael do the same. Kitty and Johnny genuinely fall for each other as do Brooke and Michael. Elizabeth and Rodney discover they love each other, too. At Long Last Love is the first musical comedy since the 1930s to record all 16 featured Cole Porter songs live instead of the actors lip-syncing to a pre-recorded soundtrack.moreless
