Athens, GA: Inside Out is a 1987 music documentary written and directed by Tony Gayton that presents the exquisite musical venues that dominated the scenes of Athens, Georgia, the home ground of successful rock bands R.E.M. and The B-52s. In the mid 80s the stage is taken by numerous other performers that play music from various genres including rock, country music and American folk music, which earned Athens the nickname "the Liverpool of the South." Live music from R.E.M. at the Lucy Cobb Institute chapel is a great start, followed by captivating performances from B-52s, Pylon, B-B-Que Killers, Jim Herbert, Kilkenny Cats, Love Tractor, Flat due Jets, Squalls, Time Toy, to name a few. Athens invites rock and country music fans in for a nice treat. The film was featured multiple times on MTV on various occasions and enters in the Top Ten films about Georgia done by New Georgia Encyclopedia. Interesting stories and interviews with band members are a nice supplement to the original performance acts.moreless
