Atlantic City, filmed on location in Atlantic City, New Jersey, captures a fascinating era in American history. It features a gritty story hiding behind the glamour of the gambling capital of the East Coast. The film features an all-star cast playing out a story of dreams. Sally (Susan Sarandon) is working as a casino waitress and looking for success in life; Lou (Burt Lancaster) is an aging gangster looking to prove his place in the world. When Sally's husband is killed by the mob after stealing a supply of drugs, Sally is left with the drugs and becomes the mob's new target. Sally is much younger than Lou's current lover, Grace (Kate Reid), the widow of a gangster, and has become the focus of Lou's attention. Seeing his opportunity, Lou becomes Sally's knight in shining armor, by rescuing her from her would-be attackers and proving that he may have some life left in him after all.
