Atlantic City is a 1980 drama about small time gangster and aspiring card dealer starring Burt Lancaster and Susan Sarandon. In the crumbling New Jersey gambling town, Sally Matthews (Susan Sarandon) works at a seafood oyster bar while training as a blackjack dealer at the casinos. She dreams of one day working in the glamorous Monte Carlo. Lou Pascal (Burt Lancaster) likes to think of himself as a one-time big shot in the criminal underworld, but the reality is he is an elderly man living in a ramshackle hotel. Sally's estranged husband, Dave (Robert Joy) shows up with her sister, Chrissie (Hollis McLaren), as well as drugs stolen from the Mob. In spite of the two running off together, they expect her to help them out and Lou has an opportunity to help a damsel in distress. French director Louis Malle blends together the tattered Atlantic City with the battered dreams of two lost souls looking for redemption in this wistful tale from playwright John Guare ("Six Degrees of Separation").
