Movie Summary

Director:
Baz Luhrmann
Released:
2008
Rating:
PG-13
Australia is Baz Luhrmann's epic tale of romance and drama during the time of the Stolen Generations, when the Australian government attempted to phase out Aboriginal culture. Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) wants her husband to sell his struggling ranch in Australia, so she travels to the town of Dover. When she arrives, she meets up with Drover (Hugh Jackman), a cattle drover who has been sent to escort her to Faraway Downs, her husband's ranch. Upon her arrival, Sarah is told that her husband has been murdered. Apparently, the ranch has been of great interest to Leslie 'King' Carney (Bryan Brown), who owns the remaining land in the area and would have a monopoly on the local cattle industry with control of Faraway Downs. Together with Drover and a local Aborigine, Nullah, Lady Sarah must find a way to sell off her husband's cattle and keep Carney's men from harming them or their herd.
