Avalon is a 2001 science-fiction film directed by Mamoru Oshii. The story takes place in a bleak future, many young people are losing themselves in an immersive and highly addictive virtual gaming world called Avalon. The problem is that Avalon can actually be deadly, meaning the players are consistently putting their lives at risk in order to escape their humdrum realities and find a higher purpose. When something goes wrong in the game, the players' bodies really become unresponsive, slipping into deep comas. Despite the risks, Ash (Ma''gorzata Foremniak) is particularly addicted to Avalon, although she prefers to play alone as a vigilante. When Ash hears rumors about a deeper level in the game, she grows determined to find it. In order to meet her goals, Ash has to join up with another team. As the real world seems to grow increasingly strange, Ash wonders if she can still tell reality apart from Avalon, and whether she should venture deeper in.moreless
