Babes in Arms is a film adaptation of the classic Rodgers & Hart Broadway musical. It tells the story of Mickey Moran (Mickey Rooney), a talented singer and performer. His parents are Broadway veterans themselves but believe that musicals are a waste of time and that Vaudeville is the only true theatrical genre. During one of his performances, Mickey and his partner, Patsy (Judy Garland), are asked to put on a self-directed show. Mickey's parents find out and threaten to send him to work on a farm if he so much as thinks about going through with his plan. Mickey ignores the threats and goes off with Patsy in an effort to prove his parents wrong and finally make it in the world of show business. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards (Mickey Rooney for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Roger Edens for Best Musical Scoring). This faithful adaptation remains a true classic among fans of Broadway musicals.moreless
