In this critically acclaimed movie, John Lithgow and Mary Beth Hurt star as the anguished parents of a severely premature infant. Everything seems to be perfect in Wendy (Mary Beth Hurt) and Neil's (John Lithgow) life. They have a new house and a baby on the way, but one night Wendy is rushed to hospital and doctors are forced to deliver her baby prematurely. Weighing just 20 ounces, the baby is born severely brain damaged and handicapped. Doctors initially have little hope of the baby surviving the week. But when she is transferred to a specialist unit, a pediatrician suggests that there is a good chance that the baby can survive and recover from some of its illnesses.
