Back to Bataan is a 1945 American war movie co-written by Ben Barzman and Richard H. Landau. It is directed by Edward Dmytryk. Set in the Philippines during World War Two, Back to Bataan tells the story of a group of U.S. Army soldiers who, after escaping from the collapse of Corregidor, flee to the jungle to wage a guerrilla war against the occupying Japanese. Colonel Joseph Madden (John Wayne) is ordered by General MacArthur to lead a motley bunch American and Filipinos soldiers. Madden finds his command filled with disaffected and beaten men. After a few less than perfect battles, Colonel Madden pulls his men back into the judge to regroup and reorganize. He then seeks out the grandson of famed Filipino anti-U.S. guerrilla warrior Andres Bonif''cio (Anthony Quinn) to train his men in the ways of jungle combat. Soon the fortunes of Madden and his men begin to change and they become a dangerous and potent fighting force.
