Back to the Secret Garden is a 2001 family fantasy directed by Michael Tuchner. The film is a sequel to The Secret Garden (1993) and is based on characters from Frances Hodgson Burnett's famous children's novel. In 1946, young Lizzie (Camilla Belle) lives at an American orphanage, where her main joy in life is spending time in the garden. One day, a glamorous visitor from England named Lady Craven (Cherie Lunghi) comes to the orphanage and tells Lizzie about Misselthwaite Manor. This British orphanage boasts a beautiful garden of its own, so Lizzie agrees to accompany Lady Craven back to the gloomy manor. However, Lizzie finds that Misselthwaite Manor is run by Martha (Joan Plowright), a woman with little patience. The beautiful garden is locked up tight. When Lizzie realizes that the garden is withering up and needs help, she decides to sneak inside. This sparks gossip and jealousy from the other orphans, including Geraldine (Florence Hoath) and Robert (Aled Roberts), but when Lizzie discovers that the garden needs everybody's help, she has to draw on the power of friendship.moreless
