Backstreet Dreams is the emotional 1990 drama about a boy with autism and a family that struggles to make a better life for him. Dean (Jason O'Malley) and Lucy (Sherilyn Fenn) and their young son Shane (John Vizzi) are struggling to make it. Dean is largely living as a criminal, thriving on backstreet dealings. When Dean comes home and finds Lucy with another man, he kicks her out and pledges to raise his son on his own. However, his son has been diagnosed with autism, and raising the boy will not be an easy or straightforward task. A compassionate psychologist named Stevie (Brooke Shields) assures Dean that he can offer his son a better life by cleaning up. Dean pledges to live right, but faces the opposition of a stringent employer who is not going to make it easy. Backstreet Dreams unfolds as a parenting drama and an unexpected love story that explores the reality of raising a child with autism.moreless
