Bad Education is a 2004 Spanish film starring Gael Garcia Bernal and directed by acclaimed auteur Pedro Almodovar. The film chronicles the reuniting of Enrique Goded (Fele Martinez), a film director, and his boyhood friend and lover, Ignacio Rodriguez (Bernal). Ignacio now goes by the name of Angel Andrade, and has brought Enrique a short story entitled "The Visit" that he is hoping Enrique will make into a film. "The Visit" tells the real life story of Angel and Enrique when they were boys at a Catholic boarding school. When Father Manolo (Daniel Gimenez Cacho) discovers the two boys engaged in sexual activity together, he threatens expulsion unless Ignacio gives himself to him. When Enrique discovers that Angel is not actually his boyhood lover but is indeed Ignacio's brother, he becomes intrigued and decides to shoot the movie with Angel as his lead. Bad Education was both a critical and financial success, grossing over five million dollars at the American box office, a large sum for a foreign-language film.moreless
