Badland is a riveting movie about a war veteran who is scarred from his experience in battle and turns his own life upside down. Jerry Rice (Jamie Draven) is a returning from a tour of duty in Iraq, battered both mentally and emotionally. Once an idealistic and patriotic soldier, he finds himself reeling from the violence he has experienced, and in a state of mental peril he commits an unthinkable act. As his life now spirals out of control toward a bottom like no other, Rice leans on the love of his young daughter Celina (Grace Fulton), and together they navigate and try to make sense of a confusing situation. Francesco Lucente directs this moving and harsh commentary on war and patriotism, that does not pull any punches. Badland dares to offer a distinct view and interpretation of the effects of war, while including extraordinary cinematography and stellar acting from a cast of Hollywood mainstays in a film that is anything but Hollywood.moreless

    Variety Robert Koehler

A strenuously solemn film that wants to create some kind of American pastoral tragedy out of the nation's current angst with the war.
