Badman's Territory follows the James Gang and Sheriff Mark Rowley (Randolph Scott) across the border of the law, into a land of anarchy called Quinto. For the James Gang, the search is for simple freedom. Freedom from the law, that is, as they have recently encountered trouble following some gun play with another gang. In the case of Sheriff Rowley, the search is for his brother who was taken to this lawless land by the James Gang when he was injured. Rowley adapts well enough to the chaos of Quinto, despite having no authority, and is able to befriend the James Gang in a sense. But soon trouble strikes for everyone in Quinto when Rowley begins to get involved in other local affairs. The United States government moves to annex Quinto, making it a land under Oklahoma state, and U.S. federal law, and Rowley has a vote in the decision.moreless
