Bait is a crime, action thriller that was released in 1999 and directed by Antoine Fuqua. The story begins in New York where small-time thief Alvin Sanders (Jamie Foxx) has just been busted by the police stealing shrimp from a local restaurant. While in jail, Sanders is placed in a cell with John Jaster (Robert Pastorelli), who has just stolen $42,000,000 in gold from the Federal Reserve. Jaster asks Sanders to relay a strange message to his wife. Neither Sanders nor the US treasury investigator, Edward Cleenten (David Morse), who later interviews Sanders, has any idea what the cryptic message means. Eighteen months later, with no other leads and absolutely no one else to interview Cleenten feels Alvin Sanders, inadvertently, holds the key to unlocking the mystery of the missing money. Despite not asking for Sander's cooperation, the small time thief is once again pulled into the investigation of the missing gold, whether he wants to help or not.
