Ballad of Cable Hogue is a 1970 Western that follows the story of a lost cowboy trying to make it through life. Cable Hogue (Jason Robards) nearly dies of thirst in the desert after being double-crossed by would-be friends. In a panicked trek to find water, he stumbles across a spring that saves him. Without a penny to his name and nothing but his wits to keep him alive, he hits on the most entrepreneurial idea he has ever had. He builds a house next to the spring, realizing that the spring sits right in the middle of a stagecoach line. As stagecoaches pass by and stop for water, Hogue charges the passengers for a drink. This quickly sets him off in a new direction in life. A prostitute from a nearby town, Hildy (Stella Stevens), moves in with him and they begin a life together. However, when his former friends who abandoned him in the desert come to call, Hogue has a mind for revenge.moreless
