Banjo on My Knee is a rousing musical about a couple of newlyweds that get sidetracked when the groom thinks he kills someone on their wedding night. When seafaring lad Ernie Holley (Joel McCrea) and his beloved land girl Barbara Stanwyck (Pearl Elliott Holley) get married, the mismatched couple looks to be a good match, but on their wedding night, Ernie puts the honeymoon on hold when he punches a man and knocks him unconscious. Mistakenly thinking he has killed the man, the new husband heads on the lam, boarding a steamboat and having his own adventures for six months. Pearl, unable or unwilling to wait for him, travels to New Orleans to track down her lost hubby, but in the meantime gets involved with Warfield Scott (Walter Catlett), a photographer with an insatiable appetite for the ladies. But when the two would be newlyweds do indeed rendezvous in the big easy, a full plate of eventful high jinks quickly ensues. John Cromwell directs this song and dance vehicle that features the vocal talent of Stanwyck and many Hollywood veterans.moreless
