Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is an animated feature film released in 1993. After the overwhelming success of Batman: The Animated series first season, Warner Bros Animation wanted to try their luck with a feature. They assigned Alan Burnett, a veteran cartoon writer to pen the script, which would involve the first film love story for Batman outside of the Tim Burton films. Andrea Beaumont, of Bruce Waynes old flames, is back in town and ready to rekindle their relationship. At the same time, a mysterious figure has been knocking off all the crime bosses in town. The figure, always in the shadows, is mistaken for Batman. Now, Bruce Wayne is on the run. He has to avoid arrest, prove his innocence, and be there for Andrea. The film was considered a commercial failure, but a critical success. It failed to meet it's 6 million dollar budget in theaters, but easily past it on video.
