Movie Summary

Stuart Townsend
Battle in Seattle is a movie that tells the true story of protestors who fought for a cause, leading to escalating tensions and eventually riots. In 1999, activists gathered to protest a World Trade Organization conference, believing that the WTO caused more harm than good. The docudrama places fictional characters at the heart of the riot, exploring the social tensions from a personal angle. Ella (Charlize Theron) is a bystander, horrified as she watches the peaceful protestors replaced by rioting. Ella's husband, Dale (Woody Harrelson), is a SWAT team member sent out to deal with the rioters. Both Ella and Dale will face unexpected and dark consequences before the riots have ended. Jay (Martin Henderson) tries to prevent the rioting and keep the focus on peaceful protest, but finds his convictions shaken by the experience. The mayor of Seattle (Ray Liotta), unprepared for the chaos caused by the riots, must make difficult decisions to restore peace to his city. From the most anarchistic rioters to the most innocent bystanders, every life in Seattle and beyond is affected by the clash between citizens and authorities.moreless

Picture's ambition, cogency and decent performances make up for its uneven aspects. Woody Harrelson has some especially good moments as a cop.
