Battle Of The Worlds, also known as Il Pianeta degli uomini spenti, is a 1961 Italian science-fiction film directed by Antonio Margheriti. In the film, Dr. Fred Steele (Umberto Orsini), Eve Barnett (Maya Brent) and Professor Benson (Claude Rains) work at an astronomical station on a remote Earth island. When a runaway planet, nicknamed "The Outsider," enters a different solar system, scientists across the galaxy fear it is on a collision course with Earth. As a result, Commander Robert Cole (Bill Carter) and his wife, Cathy (Carol Danell), travel from their own astronomical station on Mars to help the Earthlings. Professor Benson remains adamant that the runaway planet is not going to collide with Earth, but no one wants to listen to him. When Professor Benson is proved right, there is a momentary moment of happiness. Soon after though, it becomes obvious that Professor Benson and his colleagues have a much bigger problem than they anticipated.
