Movie Summary

Director:
Roger Christian
Released:
2000
Rating:
PG-13

In the year 3000, the Earth has been taken over by giant, violent aliens known as Psychlos. Led by Terl, the greedy Psychlos have stripped the planet of natural resources and enslaved the human beings. There are small pockets of free humans living in scattered tribes, but they have reverted to a primitive state and have no real weapons. When Terl decides to use humans to mine gold, he selects Jonnie "Goodboy" Tyler, a member of a human tribe, to be the project's foreman. Jonnie uses his newfound closeness to the Psychlos to learn about their weaknesses. With the help of fellow rebel fighter Carlo, Jonnie starts an uprising to free the human race from Psychlo rule.

Metacritic Score

  • 20

    Variety Dennis Harvey

Yet the overall look, though derivative ("The Matrix," "Blade Runner," "Waterworld," etc.), rates as Battlefield's one non-guilty pleasure.

  • 0

The New York Times A.O. Scott

It may be a bit early to make such judgments, but Battlefield Earth may well turn out to be the worst movie of this century.

  • 0

    Los Angeles Times

Compounded by a dated visual style, patched-together special effects and ludicrous dialogue, Battlefield Earth is a wholly miserable experience.
