Be with Me is a 2005 film directed by Eric Khoo and takes a look at the realities of love. The movie is mostly a silent movie since the main characters speak one of four different languages including English, Cantonese, Hookien and Mandarin. In the film, an elderly store owner (Chiew Sung Ching) has become depressed after the loss of his wife. He has given up on living, let alone finding love again. His hope is restored when he reads the biography of Theresa Poh Lin Chan (Theresa Poh Lin Chan), a deaf and blind woman who overcame her tragedy to live a full life. He sends her a home-cooked dinner to thank her for her inspirational book and the two start a friendship. Another love affair is brewing in the city when two young teenager girls, Jackie (Ezann Lee) and Sam (Samantha Tan) start a friendship online. Their friendship quickly blossoms into a love affair. The third person looking for love is a lonely security guard Fatty Koh (Seet Keng-Yew). He is secretly in love with a beautiful woman, Ann (Lynn Poh), who lives in his apartment building. He only loves her from afar because he is too shy to talk to her. The story details the ups and downs of these three relationships to show a true view of the realities of love.moreless

  • 70

The New York Times Stephen Holden

The fact that her story of triumph over unimaginable odds doesn't come freighted with mystical and religious bromides makes it all the more inspiring.

  • 60

    Variety Derek Elley

A curate's egg of a movie that starts intriguingly but becomes increasingly frustrating.

    The Hollywood Reporter

One terrific love story sandwiched between two mundane ones in this three-part look at love.
