The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms is a 1950 science fiction film about a prehistoric beast that unfreezes from its 100 million year hibernation after test bombings in the Arctic Circle. Physicist Tom Nesbitt (Paul Hubschmid) oversees the nuclear test bombing dubbed "Operation Experiment." Once the carnivorous Rhodesaurus awakens, it breaks free and wreaks havoc from Canada down through the East Coast of North America into Maine and Massachusetts. After causing millions of dollars in damage and numerous casualties, military troops led by Col. Jack Evans (Kenneth Tobey) launch an attack. The beast is temporarily driven back into the sea, but its blood loss during the attack contaminates the populace and kills thousands more. The beast soon arises again and comes on shore to attack the Coney Island amusement park. This time the military plans to kill the beast with a radioactive isotope.
