Beat Street is a 1984 drama about brothers Kenny Kirkland (Guy Davis) and Lee (Robert Taylor). Both the brothers are gifted performers in South Bronx. Kenny focuses on perfecting his natural talent as a disc jockey while Lee dances with the Beat Street Breakers. The two Kirklands also surround themselves with friends who love hip-hop, including Chollie (Leon W. Grant), an aspiring manager for musical artists, and Ramon (Jon Chardiet), a talented graffiti artist. The friends all dream about making it to the top of the hip-hop world, performing in exclusive New York clubs. For the time being, however, they find an outlet for their creativity in the form of house parties, mostly taking place in abandoned buildings. During a competition between the Beat Street Breakers and the Bronx Rockers, Tracy Carlson (Rae Dawn Chong), a young composer with friends in high places, admires Lee's talent. She offers the Beat Street Breakers their first big break, but it soon turns out that fame may change them permanently.moreless
