Beat is a 2000 drama starring Courtney Love, Kiefer Sutherland, Lisa Sheridan, Norman Reedus, and Ron Livingston. Written and directed by Garry Walkow and produced by Donald Zuckerman, the film is based on actual events and takes a fascinating, in-depth look at a group of travelling young college students who would go on to become the most famous, well-known beat writers. Beat follows writer William S. Burroughs (Kiefer Sutherland) and his second wife Joan Vollmer (Courtney Love) from their early college years to their time spent as expatriates living in Mexico, and tells the factual story of the obsessive love between William and Joan that ultimately led to Joan's horrific murder in the now infamous William Tell incident. As the movie examines the lives of William S. Burroughs and his wife, the audience is introduced to other influential members of the so-called Beat generation of writers, including Allen Ginsberg (Ron Livingston) and Jack Kerouac (Daniel Martinez).
