Beaufort is a 2008 war drama about a platoon of Israeli soldiers in a Lebanese mountain encampment waiting for their evacuation orders. It's the year 2000, and as 18 years of fighting between the two nations nears its climax, fear and doubt creep into the soldiers' minds. Led by Liraz Liberti (Israeli television star Oshri Cohen), the soldiers must defend a Crusades-era fort against Hezbollah's constant bombardment without any real mission other than sitting tight. Claustrophobia begins to set in, and Cohen's commitment to operating by the book puts his men in danger. Worse, even if the men wanted to desert, the roads are littered with landmines. There's no escape. Ziv (Ohad Knoller), a bomb-squad specialist, arrives with orders to clear the road. But will things go according to plan? Directed and written by Joseph Cedar, a veteran of the Israeli military himself, and based on a novel by Ron Leshem, critics described Beaufort as "astonishing," "fascinating" and "harrowing."
