Beautiful Daughters is a transgender documentary of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues." The historical stage production is filmed in front of a live audience at West Hollywood's Pacific Design Center. Calpernia Addams, Leslie Townsend, Lynn Conway, Valerie Spencer and Andrea James are a few of the women who share their stories of love, pain, rejection and intimacy. The women explore the real-life challenges facing all females in a male-oriented culture. Born as boys, these women reveal the difficulties and struggles they dealt with as they tried to gain their place in the world as a woman. Through their eyes, they relay stories of shame, hiding and secrecy when dealing with friends, family and society. The Beautiful Daughters performance was used by some of the women as a way to reveal a lifestyle that was until that point hidden. Shedding fear and shame gives these women a new lease on life and allows them to be proud of who they are.
