Beautiful People is the first feature film directed by auteur Jasmin Dizdar. This British-made satirical comedy is set in London during October of 1993 as England is playing Holland in the World Cup football qualifiers. The Bosnian War is at its peak and a large number of Serb and Croat refugees are arriving from the former Yugoslavia. The movie features a number of different stories and characters that all intertwine together. Portia (Charlotte Coleman), an ER doctor who falls in love with Pero (Edin Dzandzanovic), a Bosnia immigrant. Pero's hospital bend ends up right next to a Serb and a Croat (Frank Purti and Dado Jehan) who have fought all over London. Next to the Serb and the Croat is a Welsh firebomber (Nicholas McGaughey) who is in the ward with a burn wound. In the same hospital, there is an obstetrics doctor who takes care of a Muslim woman who was raped in Bosnia and now wants to have an abortion so that she does not give birth to a child of the enemy.moreless
