Beauty Shop is a 2005 comedy directed by Billie Woodruff. Brilliant hairstylist Gina Norris (Queen Latifah) has a cushy job at a luxurious spa in Atlanta. When her unethical boss Jorge (Kevin Bacon) claims some of Gina's finest work as her own, the furious stylist quits. Not one to sit around moping, Gina purchases a salon of her own in partnership with her good friend Lynn (Alicia Silverstone). The dilapidated salon comes with several eccentric stylists and a large, colorful clientele. Gina and Lynn are ecstatic about their new business, which quickly becomes one of the most popular beauty parlors in the area. Women come from many miles away to get a trim and have sassy conversations with the stylists and other customers. Things are almost perfect until Jorge reappears, livid that Gina's bustling salon is stealing his customers. He knows that he can't take Gina to court because stealing clients isn't illegal, so he decides to enact devastating but clandestine revenge on his former employee.moreless

For all the vivid, amusing characters that surround Gina, Beauty Shop rightly belongs to Latifah, who comes into her own as a star and an actress in this film.
