Before the Devil Knows You're Dead is a dark and disturbing 2007 family drama directed by Sidney Lumet. Executive Andy Hanson (Philip Seymour Hoffman) needs to cover the money he embezzled to buy drugs, so he plans the perfect crime. He convinces his younger and desperate brother, Hank (Ethan Hawke), to rob a jewelry store that they already know everything about. Their parents Charles (Albert Finney) and Nannette (Rosemary Harris) own the store. Andy reassures Hank that they have plenty of insurance that will cover the losses, so it will be a victimless crime. Hank's ex-wife, Martha (Amy Ryan), has threatened him with no visitation unless he pays the long-overdue child support. With the prospect of a big payoff and guilt over his affair with Andy's wife, Gina (Marisa Tomei), Hank finally agrees to the crime. Unknown to Andy, Hank adds a more experienced accomplice, Bobby (Br''an F. O'Byrne), who offers to handle the robbery on his own, but the change leads to unexpected consequences.moreless
