Behind Green Lights is a 1946 criminal drama directed by Otto Brower, which tells the story of a strange murder case transformed into a political battle through manipulation and dirty deals. When a detective is found dead in a car just outside a police station, charming Janet Bradley (Carole Landis) becomes the prime suspect because she visited him shortly before the murder took place. This is bad news for her father, who is a candidate in the local mayor elections and whose reputation is on the line. Police Lieutenant Sam Carson (William Gargan), who investigates the murder case, is pressured by a local journalist to disclose information that would ruin Janet's father's chances of winning the election. Carson refuses to collaborate with the politically influenced journalist, who works for the the other mayor candidate, out of professional ethics or maybe because of his passion for seductive Janet. Emergency actions need to be taken before the elections are negatively influenced by a political scandal.moreless
