Being John Malkovich is a black comedy film starring John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, and John Malkovich from 1999. In this fantasy story, puppeteer Craig Schwartz (Cusack) is forced to get a job in the office of LesterCorp from Dr. Lester (Orson Bean) as a file clerk. The office is in the Mertin Flemmer Building, but curiously located on floor seven and a half; a floor with ceilings so low that employees are forced to crouch during the workday. At work, Craig meets and falls for a fellow employee named Maxine (Catherine Keener) due to the tenuous marriage he shares with Lotte (Diaz). One day, Craig z finds a magic door that leads inside the brain of famous actor John Malkovich. Craig and Maxine develop a plan to sell tickets to trips inside the mind of Malkovich. When Craig comes clean to Lotte about the door she tries it and meets Maxine through the eyes of John Malkovich. As Maxine, the woman Craig now loves, falls in love with his wife through the portal he discovered, he falls deeper into paranoia and psychosis. Craig believes that as a puppeteer he can control Malkovich instead of just looking through his eyes and win back Maxine. Meanwhile, it beings to become apparent that Dr. Lester of the LesterCorp, along with good friend Charlie Sheen, is more aware of the portal than Craig and Maxine had first guessed.
