Bells of Rosarita brings together the classic Roy Rogers franchise with a charming 1945 tale of a girl, a circus, lots of cowboys and Trigger, The Smartest Horse in the Movies. In this musical outing, Sue Farnum (Dale Evans) inherits her father's circus, along with his double-dealing partner William Ripley (Grant Withers). Ripley makes a sneaky ploy to grab full ownership away from the grieving daughter. Luckily for Sue, Roy Rogers (as himself) is in town filming a movie. When Sue tells her sad plight, Rogers brings along his co-star Bob Nolan (as himself) and a parade of famous western movie stars -- Wild Bill Elliott, Bob Livingston, and Sunset Carson. Not only do the stars put on a show of a lifetime, they form a posse and hunt down the villain. With plenty of humor, especially from sidekick Gabby (George Hayes), this fine example from the long-running Roy Rogers series of musical Westerns provides a silly but satisfying mix of songs and shoot-outs at the circus.moreless
