Benchwarmers is a sports-comedy film that revolves around a trio of middle aged nerds, Richie (David Spade), Gus (Rob Schneider) and Clark (John Heder). As children, the men spent the majority of their little league games on the bench, due to their lack of athletic abilities. One day, Gus and Richie spot a group of bullies bothering a boy named Nelson (Max Prado) and his friends on a baseball field. Gus and Richie scare the bullies away. Shortly after, Gus, Richie and Clark are back at the baseball field when the bullies appear. The trio challenges the bullies to a game and Gus, Richie and Clark win. Nelson's father, Mel (Jon Lovitz), is a billionaire who hears of the men's win. He informs them he will be holding a baseball tournament in which the winning team will be given access to a new baseball field he has built. The tournament will be between little leaguers, but Mel invites them to join anyway. The trio decides to take Mel up on his offer and they name themselves the Benchwarmers. They soon find out that facing little league teams is not as easy as they originally thought.

The Benchwarmers is the sort of trash that Hollywood does really well. It is also, to quote Mr. Schneider, "a master's thesis on the form of a quintessential Adam Sandler comedy."
