Better than Chocolate is a lesbian love story about Maggie (Karyn Dwyer) and Kim (Christina Cox) who meet in Vancouver, after developing a strong connection they decide to move in together. Things get complicated when Maggie's recently divorced mother, Lila (Wendy Crewson) moves in with them who doesn't know about Maggie and Kim's relationship and Maggie's sexuality. Through Maggie's mom living with them she learns the truth about Maggie and Kim and how they are not 'just friends'. Maggie's mother also meets and befriends with Judy, a transsexual who is about to go through a sex change. Maggie's mom also meets the rest of Maggie and Kim's other unique friends. Now Maggie's mother has to accept Maggie for who she is and that she has dropped out of law school and is now working on at a lesbian book store. The movie is about a mother having to accept who her daughter is.
