Beyond Rangoon is an award-winning 1995 dramatic action film directed by John Boorman, which revolves around two sisters who embark on a dangerous trip to a country affected by political turmoil. Laura Bowman (Patricia Arquette) is a female doctor who struggles to come to terms with the loss of her husband and son. She decided to take her sister, Andy (Frances McDorman), on a vacation trip to Burma, attempting to distract herself from the strong inner pain. As it turns out, Burma is not exactly the perfect place for a relaxing vacation. Laura becomes involved in a student's political protest against the oppressive government and loses her passport in the chaos of the rally. When the government responds with violence, Laura joins the opposition leader U Aung Ko (as himself) as they travel through the entire country witnessing acts of violence conducted by the cruel regime followers. If Laura is to safely escape from the country, they must find a way to cross the border into Thailand.moreless
