Beyond the Pale is a biographical film about two Irish men trying to make ends meet against all olds in the United States. The 1999 film was written by Patrick Clarke and George Bazala and directed by Bazala. Patrick Shaw (Patrick Clarke), a young, eager Irishman has always dreamed of moving to America. When he learns his whimsical friend Seamus (Conn Horgan) also wants to jump over the pond, they catch the next plane to New York city and enter the country illegally. The young men divide their time very differently once they are situated in America. Seamus, a more adventurous and impatient person, attempts to make money quickly and not always through legal means. Patrick, on the other hand, dedicates his time to caring for an old Irish author named Tom (Malachy McCourt) and fawning over a beautiful woman named Helen (Beverly Elder). Perhaps the situations Patrick and Seamus find themselves in ring close to home, and maybe they don't. Regardless, Beyond the Pale is a compelling story about two men with honest intentions.moreless
