Beyond Tomorrow is a romantic fantasy released in 1940 and directed by A. Edward Sutherland. James Houston (Richard Carlson) and Jean Lawrence (Jean Parker) fall in love through a serendipitous meeting engineered by three company heads, George Vale Melton (Harry Carey), Allan 'Chad' Chadwick (C. Aubrey Smith), and Michael O'Brien (Charles Winninger). George, Chad and Michael die in a plane crash, but remain on Earth as ghosts until they are granted access to heaven. Part of their mission as ghosts is to help James and Jean overcome the turbulent problems associated with their newfound love. Arlene Terry (Helen Vinson) acts as an obstacle when she makes a move on James, leaving George, Chad and Michael a series of problems to solve if true love is ever to take its course. As each ghost is called from Earth, it is a race against time to save the future happiness of the young couple.
