Big Dreams Little Tokyo is a 2006 indie comedy about cultural identity and clashes in the global community. Roommates Boyd (Dave Boyle) and Jerome (Jayson Watabe) find themselves in between cultures. Boyd believes he is the perfect Japanese business man, in spite of his Caucasian looks. His uncanny knack for speaking the language and his embrace of the cultural customs do not impress the potential Japanese clients. He tries selling his translation services door-to-door with Jerome, who wants to be a sumo wrestler in spite of his "low" weight of 200 pounds. As a Japanese-American, he feels either too much or too little of each side of his cultural identity to really belong. The young men then meet Mai (Rachel Morihiro), who helps them find a place in the world. Dave Boyle ("White on Rice") also writes and directs this charming character study that takes a wise and wry look at our multicultural modern world.
