Big Momma's House is a 2000 American crime comedy movie by director Raja Gosnell, starring Martin Lawrence, Nia Long, Paul Giamatti, Jascha Washington, Terrence Howard, Anthony Anderson, and Ella Mitchell in the popular prequel to Big Momma's House 2 and Big Momma's House 3. Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence) is an FBI agent who happens to also be a master of disguise. But when Malcolm, along with colleague John Maxwell (Paul Giamatti) is assigned to track down an escaped convict in Georgia, even his powers of disguise are tested. This time it is not just about sticking on a funny mustache and changing his accent, but about becoming a whole new person - a woman, in fact, an elderly, very large woman. Now Malcolm must take on a whole new identity, gender, build, and personality as he tries to fill the shoes of larger than life Hattie Mae Pierce (Ella Mitchell), also known as 'Big Momma.' Things get tricky when Malcolm has to solve the case, catch the criminal, stay in disguise, and bluff out Big Momma's own granddaughter, Sherry (Nia Long) in the process. Especially because Sherry strikes Malcom's fancy. Big Momma's House won a 2001 BMI Film Music Award and was nominated for eight additional awards, including a 2001 MTV Movie Award and a 2000 Teen Choice Award.moreless
