Billy Jack is half American, half Cherokee who is a former Green Beret, having served in Vietnam. Billy Jack acts as a protector for the Freedom School, a "hippie" institution which often falls under scrutiny from the small town nearby who are not open to the counterculture they teach. The school is run by Jean Roberts (Delores Taylor), Billy Jack's girlfriend, who organizes classes, comedy sketches, and song circles. One day, she takes the class to the nearby town for ice cream, and the students are harassed by the local townspeople to the point where Billy Jack must fight back. Bernard Posner (David Roya), the leader of this gang, later sexually assaults Jean and murders on of the Cherokee children. This forces Billy Jack to engage in a final showdown with Bernard.moreless
